Bentley has been offered a clean slate by AVB and hopes to re-ignite his career.
The midfielder started his career with Arsenal, but saw first team opportunities to be rare and few due to a strong senior squad. He joined Norwich City and Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 for two loan deals in two seasons and made a permanent switch to Blackburn in 2006.
Despite being set to be a future http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 great, with many Arsenal fans going as far as to drawing comparisons between him and Dennis Bergkamp, the player faded and was unable to establish himself in the Gunners setup.
He then signed for Tottenham Hotspur in July 2008, but failed to make an impact as injuries and the arrival of Harry Redknapp prevented him from getting any playing time.
The arrivals of Rafael Van Der Vaart, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 and Sandro in midfield pushed him further down the pecking order, and Bentley was loaned out to Birmingham City on a season long loan spell in 2011.
The midfielder is however determined to take full advantage of a ‘clean’ slate offered to him by new Portuguese manager Andre Villas-Boas.
Speaking to a magazine, Bentley said: "With the new manager, the new era, the new training ground, hopefully I can be a new player, with a new attitude and a new way of doing things.”
"This is a chance for me to get back on the good wave now and, if I can be a part of it, that'd be great.”
"I've already spoken to the manager and he just said: 'You've got a clean slate, so do what you can do and try to impress.'"
The Spurs midfielder then admitted that it has been difficult for him to improve his career in recent times and stated that most of it was his own fault. He added: "I'd had so long riding a wave that was good and then I came off and was riding a wave that was bad, and I could never get myself back on top.”
"It has been hard, but hopefully now I can just get back and crack on."
