Benzema and Ronaldo's hat-tricks lead the 8-0 win at the Copa del Rey
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Karim-Benzema-c20350 had three goals each to lead Real Madrid to an 8-0 rout of Levante on Wednesday in the first leg of the Round of 16 in the Copa del Rey. The second leg of the total-goals series is at Levante
on January 5th.
Ronaldo has now scored 25 goals in 24 matches in all matches played for Madrid this season. Benzema connected in the 6th, 32nd and 70th minutes. Mesut Oezil and Pedro Leon also scored in the match
against Levante as Jose Mourinho’s team dominated the first leg at Santiago Bernebeu stadium from the start, shrugging off its indifferent form in the 1-0 league win against Sevilla at the weekend.
"The result is good for us and our fans because they wanted an exhibition of football and I believe we put one on," said Benzema, who brought his campaign total to nine goals.
Benzema scored in the sixth minute by slicing through the defense line of Levante, beating the goalkeeper, Gustavo Munua straight into the net.
Oezil helped his teammate just four minutes later, when Ronaldo had recovered the ball half way and forwarded to set up the German playmaker, racing towards the 6-yard box.
Benzema added Madrid’s third in the 32nd, charging into the area to finish off a pass from Angel Di Maria. The French striker set it up for Ronaldo inside the six-yard box for the fourth goal, to lead to halftime.
Then again, Benzema came into action from a great pass by Di Maria in the 70th minute, before Ronaldo completed his hat trick scoring in the 72nd and 74th minutes.
Leon capped the demolition in the 90th.
Mourinho said he was more pleased with how Benzema played.
"He made movements to support his teammates and then pressured to recover the ball when we lost it," the Portuguese coach said. "When you make good positional adjustments, you normally have a good game."
The resounding victory for Madrid is almost ironic as only a month ago Real suffered a very similar drubbing at the hands of arch-rivals, Barcelona. It seems that with this victory they have let off a little pent up steam.
