Contrary to popular expectations, the forward could not perform at the top of his game in his first season with the Santiago Bernabeu outfit. However, Jose Mourinho’s arrival at the Spanish capital provided the Frenchman with another opportunity to shine
at his new club.
Under the Portuguese mentor, Benzema found his touch and soon impressed with a number of spectacular performances.
The 2010/2011 saw the Madrid number 9 emerge as an important member of the squad. Fitness issues and injuries reduced options for Mourinho and he abundantly employed the attacker upfront.
With his good showing, Benzema is now the primary striker at the Spanish capital-based outfit.
The 2011/2012 season saw the former Lyon player as one of the most significant performers for Los Vikingos. The 24-year-old scored on numerous occasions and contributed massively towards their 32nd Spanish La Liga trophy.
However, Benzema has not enjoyed the best of his form at the start of the new season. The forward has failed to score even once in Real Madrid’s three games in the league so far. Los Merengues drew their first match, lost the second and won the third match.
Nevertheless, the striker could not play the winning role in any of these matches, a fact which has many Madridista concerned.
However, Zidane is convinced that it is only a matter of time before Karim starts scoring again, whilst stating that his compatriot is a true talent.
"Benzema still has to hit top form and be on top of his game again, but the entire world knows that he is a great player," the former World Cup winner told reporters.
