The Sampdoria vice-president has revealed that the club thought of the sacked manager as a temporary arrangement, and has stated that survival is the first objective for the club.
Edoardo Garrone has revealed why Sampdoria chose to thank Beppe Iachini for the club’s promotion into Serie A with a sack, and has stressed that the decision was a tough call for the outfit.
The Samp qualified for Italy’ top flight through play-offs under the leadership of the tactician, who was eventually fired to make space for former under-21 coach Ciro Ferrara.
Garrone insisted that they chose Iachini in the first place, because his CV showed all the right credentials that the club was looking for in a replacement for the fired manager Gianluca Atzori.
The Samp chief stressed that the club wanted to adapt to a different pathway with their promotion back into Serie A, and had to make the difficult choice of letting the Italian tactician go.
While talking to the Gazzetta dello Sport, the Doria vice-president said:
“We chose Iachini after sacking Gianluca Atzori because his CV convinced us of the fact that he could be the right man to get us up. We then had to make a different and painful decision, but we needed a person who was more suitable for the path that we want to go down.”
The Blucerchiati earned their way back into http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926’s top flight at the first attempt, but the vice-president maintained that it was a tough test of survival.
Garrone stated that the promotion back to Serie A has been a difficult task, and insisted that they cannot afford to go down the same path once again.
The Sampdoria chief was adamant that the league will be very competitive in the next season, and stressed that the club will aim for a peaceful survival in the upcoming year.
“Winning promotion was a lot more difficult than many people think. The damage of relegation, on a morale and economical level, was so great that we can’t go down again. It’s a necessity. Serie A will be very competitive – our aim is a tranquil salvation.” He added.
Garrone concluded by reiterating his position on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Antonio-Cassano-c6302, stating that he has no interest in signing the club's former striker.
