The Bianconeri director general has stated that while the Dutchman is a fine player, the reluctance of Arsenal in selling the player stands as a hurdle between a deal.
Beppe Marotta has undermined the speculation surrounding Juventus’ move for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380, and has stated that club’s interest in the player has been exaggerated in the media.
The Old Lady are on the lookout for a top striker to fuel their UEFA Champions League campaign in the upcoming season, and have been linked with the Dutch attacker for a possible summer move.
The Gunners’ striker has only one year left on his contract with the London outfit, and has already announced that he will not be extending his contract with the club.
Beppe Marotta was of the view that being a quality player is not just about having a big price tag, but stressed that one also has to prove one’s value on the football pitch.
The Juventus director was adamant that the Bianconeri will only go for a player that offers a substantially higher value compared to his price tag.
While talking to Sky Sport Italia, the 57-year-old said:
"A top player is not only judged by how much he costs. It can also mean a player who costs less but on the pitch shows an absolute value.”
Marotta went on to stress that too much has been made of the club’s interest in Van Persie, and insisted that it is difficult to strike a deal for a player when the owners are keen on keeping a hold of him.
The Bianconeri director general stressed that while their interest in the striker is genuine, the reluctance of Arsenal to sell him has put them off the transfer interest.
“Van Persie is a great player but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 do not intend to lose him. And you cannot indulge in a player if the owners don't want [to sell]. Talk of our real interest in him seems excessive to me."
Juventus have also been closely linked with a move for Fiorentina starlet http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stevan-Jovetic-c34163, and reports suggest that the club is accelerating its efforts on that front after the Arsenal snub.
