Fiorentina were livid with the Bianconeri outfit for trying to hijack their deal of the Bulgarian, but Marotta has reiterated that they did not act unethically.
It was a confusing day for many, entertaining for others and one of distraught and disappointment for the Fiorentina fans, who were expecting the arrival of the former Bayer Leverkusen striker at the Florence airport. However, the player did not arrive at
the airport despite the fact that a representative of the club was at the airport to receive the player along with fans of the club.
They were in for a disappointment as it turned out that Berbatov had failed to board the connecting flight from Munich. Fiorentina blamed Juventus and issued a scathing statement condemning the actions of the club and that of Fulham as being highly unethical
and unsporting behaviour.
What increased the disappointment of the Florence outfit was the fact that they had agreed terms and conditions with the player and with the club; all that was required was a medical and signing of the contract.
Marotta went on to state that this nothing out of the blue, and such things should be expected during transfers of players. The Director-General of the Bianconeri outfit went on to state that they had only approached Manchester United after they got to know
that Fiorentina were being rejected by the player following approach from Fulham.
He went on to state:
“We only approached Manchester United and got close to the player after discovering he had turned down Fiorentina. There was an offer from Fulham, but he wanted to evaluate our proposal too and give a definitive response tonight.”
Giuseppe Marotta went on to state that the accusations by the Florence outfit were not valid, as the player was willing to listen to the offer proposed by La Signora. Marotta raised another point by stressing that the player wants to pursue his career in
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749, and remarked:
“He wants to stay in the Premier League. Why was he in Munich? His wife is from there.”
Berbatov would be pairing up with Martin Jol at Fulham, the man who brought him into English football from Leverkusen.
