Berbatov brace help United cruise past Sunderland
For a team that showed so much promise going into the match, Sunderland delivered very little. Manchester United tore Steve Bruce’s side apart, winning the game 2-0.
The hosts should have scored a lot more though. The Red Devils gave a performance much like that against Blackburn, minus the goals. United got off to the best possible start, when Giggs made a blistering run down the middle of the field, and passed the
ball to Rooney at the edge of the box. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 striker spotted Berbatov making a run at the far post , and delivered an inch perfect cross to the Bulgarian. Berbatov made no mistake with the header, beating Craig Gordon and giving his side the lead with
only four minutes gone.
A single goal did not seem to satisfy the hosts, and they immediately pushed on in search of their second. For the rest of the half, Sunderland watched helplessly as the Red Devils laid siege to their goal. Berbatov, Rooney, and even Anderson came close
to scoring, but were denied by the woodwork. The Bulgarian flashed another shot into the side netting, and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Giggs-c31985 forced a great save from Craig Gordon to keep the Black Cats in the match. The Sunderland goalkeeper then pulled off an even better save to
deny Rooney just before the end of the first half. Meanwhile, Sunderland had yet to fire a single shot at Van Der Sar’s goal. It was amazing how United led by just a single goal going into half time.
The visitors had a better start to the second half. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Asamoah-Gyan-c6791 had chances to equalise, but failed to direct their shots on target. However, a slice of luck sealed the three points for Manchester United. Berbatov fired a shot aimed
at the bottom right corner of the Sunderland goal, and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Anton-Ferdinand-c6260, leaving the Sunderland keeper helpless, as he watched the ball go into the back of
the net. There was no way back for the Black Cats from there. Berbatov almost managed to get his hat-trick, but Craig Gordon made the save to deny the Bulgarian yet again. By the end of the match, Sunderland had managed just one shot on target. It was a disappointing
performance from an admittedly weakened Sunderland side.
Manchester United’s victory means they consolidate their position at the summit of the Barclays Premier League. They are two points clear of their nearest competitors, Manchester City, who have played two games more than the Red Devils. United have now stretched
their unbeaten run in the Premier League to 17 games, making them favourites to retain the title this season.
