The Fulham boss claims that new signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dimitar-Berbatov-c11254 was looking forward to playing alongside Moussa Dembele, who chose to leave the club in search of greener pastures at Tottenham.
Berbatov chose to remain in the Premier League despite official interest in his services from top sides in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926. The Bulgarian striker had been coveted by the likes of Juventus and Fiorentina, but in the end chose to sign for Fulham, who have been annual
contenders for a UEFA Europa League position.
One of the main attractions for the former Manchester United attacker was the presence of ex-coach Martin Jol at the helm, the very same trainer who was responsible for his rise at White Hart Lane.
Another major influence was Moussa Dembele, the play-maker who had been shining for the Cottagers in the last few seasons and was the subject of interest from Real Madrid as well.
With him plying his trade at Craven Cottage, Berbatov would have received quality balls that he took for granted at Old Trafford. But after confirming his arrival at Fulham, he saw the Belgian International leave the club in search of Europa League glory.
Dembele’s departure has reportedly saddened ‘Berba’ according to manager Jol, who claims that the front-man still decided to sign terms with the club, despite the departure of their main stars.
"You build teams around good players – and Berbatov is excellent quality. He showed exactly that when I was at Spurs. It's about finding the right balance. If players come back it will be OK and maybe we have to change the system.”
"He [Berbatov] really looked forward to playing with Dembele. The first thing he said to me was, "Where's Dembele going?" and I had to say he's going to Spurs. He was disappointed. He was told that before his medical, but luckily we managed to keep him in
the building. We've made money but the problem is that we've not had enough time to spend it,” he said.
The Whites were on the end of a 3-0 thrashing by West Ham United in their last game, but with a number of quality players now settled, they will look secure three points when they face West Bromwich Albion after the International break.
