Bere Badger after his victory in the finals of British Bred Dunham Maiden Derby
Trainer D P Brabon’s two-year-old greyhound with his significant performance highlighted the racing event on the 28th of August, 2011, at Sittingbourne race course.
The black dog with his out class speed, declared himself to be the actual winner of the purse, worth £1500.
Previously in the (Bags) British Bred Dunham Maiden Derby's (Heat 2), held at the same venue on the 21st of August, 2011, the English greyhound with his swift run, left all his five contenders behind and reached the wire in 29 minutes and 16 seconds.
This victory not only helped him in winning the purse of £150, but also made him enter the finals, held on Sunday.
Son of Premier Fantasy out of Ahangran Rose Mar, Brer Badger started his chase from trap 6. In urge to win the purse, he raced as fast as he could from the beginning, and throughout the competition the champion was leading the race.
Being the first one to reach the wire in minimal time proved that this young dog is a real go getter as he covered the 480 meter distance in 30 minutes and 3 seconds.
Trainer P J Simmond’s one-year-old, Hes Getin Nearer, who broke his maiden on the 18th of June, 2011, raced really well that night, as the name tells he was 1 ½ meters away from Bere Badger.
The black dog started his race from trap one. Although he was crowded by the winner of the race, he managed to continue his run without breaking the flow of his speed.
Even though he performed really well, he managed to finish second by covering the distance in 30 minutes and 15 seconds.
Westmead Swallow who was right behind Hes Getin Nearer finished third in the (Bags) British Bred Dunham Maiden Derby Final.
Trainer S Mavria’s one-year-old broke his maiden at the same venue, on the 7th of August, 2011.
Westmead Swallow starting the race from trap 2, had a slow start initially, then eventually he got crowded and left behind by a distance of 1 ¼ lengths.
The time in which the young hound covered the distance was 29 minutes and 86 seconds.
The young greyhound Mountjoy Hawk who stood second in the (Bags) British Bred Dunham Maiden Derby (Heat 2), had to face hard luck in the finals.
The one-year-old started his chase from trap 5. Trainer S A Cahill’s hound got bumped into Bere Badger and later on he was crowded by Westmead Swallow.
Mountjoy Hawk who was left 2 lengths behind, finished fourth in the event by covering the distance in 30 minutes and 2 seconds.
Brer Hedgehog and Brer Hare who are brothers to Bere Badger, the winner of the race, could not perform as well as their brother.
Although Bere Hare was also trained by the same trainer, D P Brabon, he could not manage to finish at a better position, and was declared as the last one to reach the wire in 30 minutes and 14 seconds.
His brother Brer Hedgehog, trained by S Spiers, was a length ahead of Bere Hare. He had to face similar circumstances and finished fifth in the race in 30 minutes and 5 seconds.
