BERE DAVIS SET FOR BRIGHTON VICTORY:

Running off his lowest ever handicap mark, the David Evans trained Bere Davis can take full advantage by landing Brighton’s SIS Live Handicap at 4.00pm. Although he  has not won in over a year, he has shown distinct signs of a return to form in his last two starts. On his penultimate outing, he finished third to Aestival at this track, and that winner has scored twice since. He put in a better effort last time though when finishing fifth to Kilburn at Goodwood. That was a much stronger contest than the one he encounters here, and a reproduction of that performance could well be good enough.

Summers Target has shown little in three starts this season, and looks to have gone backwards since showing some promise as a juvenile. Although his fifth to King’s Sabre last time out was a slight improvement, it was on the whole a very moderate race. Looks up against it here.

Clearing House did show some signs of ability in all weather maiden events back in 2008, but has shown absolutely nothing since. Was beaten a long way in a Newmarket handicap last time out and the same fate awaits here.

The Mouse Carroll was sent off favourite for a Kempton handicap on his penultimate start, but could manage only eighth behind Guildernstern. Although still a maiden, he is clearly thought capable of winning a race, though it is unlikely to be this one unless he can find significant improvement on his effort last time out when ninth to Sign Of The Cross at Lingfield. Others preferred here.

Rebel Woman ran well enough albeit at a modest level last season, but will have to put a dismal effort on her recent return to action, behind her to get involved here. Likely to find a couple too good.

Fire King is not the most consistent of performers but he did manage to win over ten furlongs for trainer Jonathan Geake back in 2009. Has run quite well on both his starts this season and was very well backed last time out, when finishing sixth to Cyril The Squirrel at Bath. Looks well handicapped and certainly one to consider.

Stargazy is a poor handicapper at best with a patchy record, and gave little sign of a return to form, when managing only ninth at Warwick on his reappearance last week.

Northern Genes has shown nothing in three starts in maiden events, and no reason to suggest his handicap debut here, can bring about much improvement.

Prince Valentine has won four times at this track, though the last of those wins came back in 2008. Not really in good enough form to suggest he can get back to winning ways here, and is easily opposed.

Foxtrot Bravo is still a maiden after 14 starts and possibly ran his best race yet, when third to Inquisitress at this venue last time out. That is nowhere near good enough to win this though, and would have to show marked improvement to be involved here.

Easy Wonder is a very poor performer and her only win from 50 starts came in a maiden back in 2007. Easy to look elsewhere.

Auburn Place has at least hinted at some ability in maidens and being lightly raced, is open to further improvement, now that she is sent handicapping. Could go well at big odds.

Dancing Poppy only has modest form at best and has made very little impact in a couple of handicaps this season. Difficult to make a case for her chances.

Baxter has not achieved anything of note in his four starts so far. He was hammered out of sight at Wolverhampton last time and is easily opposed here.

Yehonala cannot be considered on the form of her three runs to date. She may improve for running in a handicap here, but difficult to see it being enough.

Knowledgeable is lightly raced and turned in a decent effort on his final start of last season, when finishing fourth to House Red at Leicester. Making his return to action here, he would certainly have a chance if fully wound up, so one to consider.
