The European Senior Tour’s Berenberg Bank Masters is set to mark a return to its 2011 venue, the Cologne Golf and Land Club, when the event kicks off next year, on August 2, 2013.
A number of professionals have lauded the decision of moving the tournament back to its old venue, as the Cologne Golf and Land Club is regarded as one of the most beautiful golf clubs in the world.
In addition to that, the course is believed to be a challenging one and offers a real test to golfers, in a bid to challenge their mental resilience.
According to the club officials, a new clubhouse has been built, in order to increase the ‘feel good’ factor.
Dr. Hans-Walter Peters, spokesman for the general partners of the Berenberg Bank, made the announcement and said that the return of the event will allow the local fans to watch their favourite players competing live in front of them.
In addition to that, it will also provide great deal of opportunities to the local business community, as the tournament is expected to attract a huge crowd coming from different parts of the world.
"We are pleased that the Berenberg Bank Masters is returning to a venue enjoyed by both the players and the spectators. We are returning to a traditional golf club where the fans in the Rhineland region can watch many of the great golfing heroes,” said Peters, while making the announcement.
In 2010, the inaugural edition of the event was staged at Fancourt in South Africa. Thereafter, the tournament officials decided to move the event to Germany on permanent basis.
The former Masters champion Ian Woosnam took home the 2011 title at the Cologne Golf and Land Club, prior to the event moved to the Wörthsee Golf Club for the 2012 edition.
The tournament organizers have once again decided to stage the event at Cologne, where a number of top-notch Senior Tour players are expected to contend against each other.
According to the Tournament Ambassador Bernhard Langer, the tournament is expected to feature some of the prominent names, including the likes of the defending champion Tim Thelen, Sam Torrance, Barry Lane and Costantino Rocca.
