I am going to Berlin for a week, I would like to know the names and locations of some fun bohemian cafes (where I can smoke, I know there's restrictions for this!!!) and also reccommend some clubs please?

I am going to be in the Mitte area.

What other things you suggest for seeing in Berlin? I am the bohemian artsy type.

  1. There are plenty of galleries and museums in Berlin, so that should be enough to quench your thirst for art. I would recommend the Tacheles house. I'm sure you'll like it. It's a former squat house turned into an art house. See here: http://super.tacheles.de/cms/ It's in Oranienburger Strasse in district Mitte. Similar to that is the Thommy-Weissbecker-Haus (also an arty squat house) in district Kreuzberg (metro station Hallesches Tor). It has an impressive facade with great drawings/paintings on it. see here: http://www.tommyhaus.org/ They also have a pub in there and sometimes (punk or rock) concerts.

More traditional art places would be the impressive museum "Neue Nationalgalerie" close to Potsdamer Platz (http://www.neue-nationalgalerie.de/ ) or the museum "Hamburger Bahnhof" (http://www.hamburgerbahnhof.de/cont/cont... ).

Here is a comprehensive list of bars and pubs in Berlin in which you can still smoke: http://www.raucher-lokale-berlin.de/

For clubs: it depends on what music you like of course. Places I like are the White Trash in the district Prenzlauer Berg (http://www.whitetrashfastfood.com/ ), which also hosts a fun restaurant by the way and mostly plays Indie/Rock/Electro. I also like the Bang Bang Club in Mitte (at Hackescher Markt), where they mostly play Retro, Britpop and Indie stuff. See http://www.bangbang-club.de/

Else I would suggest that you buy the city magazines "Zitty" and/or "Tip" upon revival, which list all the happenings in the city for the week ahead. Even though they are in German, they should be pretty self-explanatory.

    Have fun!

  2. I am not a nBerlin native, so I don't know very much about the town. But if you don't get any valuable answers here, check out the Toytown Berlin webpage with information about Berlin afes etc. in English.

    Or use qype UK!

  3. THE EXBERLINER is an English-language magazine for Berlin, which you can buy at kiosks and in cafés.

However, on their website they've got quite a big section called BERLIN CITY GUIDE. Here's the link:

    http://exberliner.net/cityguide/

Tons of tips on what to do and what not, as well as many restaurant and bar suggestions.

    Enjoy.

    P.S.: My favorite club:

http://www.berghain.de/ (if you like techno - biggest dance club in berlin)

  4. Best Café IMHO is Café Courage in Mitte. The address is Saarbrücker Str. 17, it's right near the U-Bahn station Senefelder Platz (on the U2 line, 2 stations north of Alexanderplatz). Should fit your requirements nicely.
