My husband and I are wanting to take a cruise for our vacation. We are leaning towards on to Kings Wharf, Bermuda. Has anyone ever been there and if so, how was it. Also, what type of clothing is appropriate (it has one formal night, if that matters)

  1. King's Wharf is on the western end of the island. They have some shops and a maritime museum.  I think you would be better off getting a Bermuda cruise that docks in Hamilton, the capitol.   There is more to see and do there.    Of course, you can get there from King's Wharf, but you have to take a bus or water taxi.  Take casual attire, nothing too risque, for the ship and shore, and an evening gown for formal night.

  2. I've been to Bermuda 3 times and i would defiantly make sure the ship docks at Hamilton.  Make sure you hit Horseshoe Bay.  It's probably the nicest beach I’ve ever been to.  Depending on how long you’re going to be there i would recommend renting mopeds. it might be a bit expensive but you get a chance to see beautiful places on the island that often go missed by tourists.  Tobacco Bay is also a great beach with almost no waves.  Have Fun!

  3. I have been to Bermuda on cruises twice and it was my experience that while the ship may dock at Kings Wharf (also called the Royal Dockyard) the cruise ships generally dock at at least two of the three available ports during their stays.

The best place to dock is in the town of Hamilton.  Its the largest town on the island and has some shopping (not much) and a few sights to see.  It is a hub for the bus and ferry transportation system and so you can go very easily about anywhere on the island from there.

The Dockyard/Kings Wharf is at the far end of the 22 mile long island.  That location has a museum, a small shopping mall, a small beach area and is a place where you can catch the bus and/or ferry to anywhere on the island, including the beaches. Bermuda is a place where its very safe to catch the buses to go places; I have used the buses to go to the beaches several times.

The third place where the ship may dock for a  day is a small town called St George.  That location is just a few steps from a few stores and about 3/4 mile walk to a couple beaches, including Tobacco Bay which is best for snorkeling.  You can also walk to Ft Catherine from there, if you like that type thing.

Its easiest to get to the best beaches, Elbow Beach and Long Bay, from the town of Hamilton and from the Dockyard.

The formal nights on cruises are really just requested attire and you can dress up as much as you want or just do "sports casual" attire.  If you want to dress up its anything from a suit and tie for men to a Tux, and a gown or party dress for women.  Just do it the way YOU want to do it.
