Bernard Hopkins: I do not want to get in a dog and cat fight with Dawson – Boxing News
Bernard Hopkins, the current light heavyweight champion, wants to keep his cool this time against Chad Dawson. Both the fighters are scheduled to face each other on April 28. This will be the second time Dawson will have the chance to beat Hopkins and grab
the title. Last time, when they both went head to head, Dawson tossed Hopkins on the mat in the second round and won the fight with a TKO decision. However, later the decision was reversed and Hopkins retained his title.
Back then, Hopkins actively participated in building up hype for the fight but this time Hopkins wants to be the quiet one. In his recent interview, Hopkins iterated, “I’m not going to get into a dog and cat fight and I ain’t the cat. I’m not going to go
back and forth and say he’s going to do this and he’s going to do that. At the end of the day, I really don’t have too much to say but this is for the call. You have to do things to bring peoples interest so I understand that. But right now there isn’t too
much for me to say. The only thing I want to do is show up. Whoever can make it, make it. Whoever don’t, don’t.”
On the other hand, Dawson appreciated Hopkins for whatever he has done for the sport and his achievement of becoming the oldest world champion. He then said that he indeed wants to go out there in the ring and beat Hopkins to become the world light heavyweight
champion and that is exactly what he will do on the April 28. He also said that he is well aware of how much this win will mean to his career and on the contrary, if he loses, it will be a career breaking loss.
This time Dawson has been the person talking most about the fight, trying to get his fans’ attention. However, usually it is Bernard Hopkins who does his best to make sure the fight is a best-seller. This time, it seems like Hopkins does not really care
about how much he sells but he just wants to fight Dawson and get done with it once and for all.
