Bernard Hopkins challenges Chad Dawson to knock him out – Boxing news
The Executioner, Bernard Hopkins, who is the current World Boxing Council and The Ring Light Heavyweight champion, has challenged the Ring Magazine’s number four Light Heavyweight boxer in the world, Chad Dawson, to knock him out in the ring this weekend.
The 46-year-old Hopkins is set to defend his titles against Chad ‘Bad’ Dawson on October 15, 2011 in Los Angeles, California and he wants his countryman to bring the best out of him.
“I want Chad Dawson not to be the Chad Dawson that many writers have written about. You all have seen me. You know what I can do push ups and all. I am challenging Chad Dawson to try to knock me out. I want to see the best Chad Dawson,” he said.
Hopkins, who carries a record of winning 52 of his 60 professional fights (2 Draws, 1 no contest), with 34 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, became the oldest boxer ever to win a heavyweight title at the age of 46 after he beat the Canadian boxer
Jean Pascal via unanimous decision in May 2011. Hopkins wants to add another page in the history book by winning against Dawson.
Hopkins insisted he is still in the best shape of his life and people should not think of him as an old man. He also revealed he is looking to make the history once again.
Hopkins said, “My goal is to be fighter of the year. My goal is to make history again. There aren’t athletes in any sport four years from 50 that can do this. My birth certificate is what it is. Stop putting me in a category with the average 40 and up person.”
The 29-year-old Dawson is a former WBC, IBF and IBO light heavyweight champion. Moreover, he holds a record of winning 30 of his 32 professional fights (1 no contest), with 17 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout.
Therefore, it is fair to that this will certainly be an explosive fight. However, all that is left to see is whether Hopkins will be able to win against his 17 years older opponent or not.
