Bernard Hopkins claims he is still the king of the jungle – Boxing news
The Executioner, Bernard Hopkins, who is the current World Boxing Council and The Ring Light Heavyweight champion, has claimed he is still the best out there in the light heavyweight division of the world.
Hopkins, who holds a record of winning 52 of his 60 professional fights (2 Draws, 1 no contest), with 34 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, will make his first historic title defence against his countryman Chad ‘Bad’ Dawson this weekend on October
15, 2011 in Los Angeles, California. He is in no mood to give his title to anybody.
The 46-year-old Hopkins told the media he is still king of the jungle and he is in no mood to let anyone take over.
“You're going to see a fight where the youth wants to take the lion that's in the jungle and retire him,” said Hopkins. “I'm just not ready to go, to leave the jungle.”
The 29-year-old Dawson, who has won 30 of his 32 professional fights (1 no contest), with 17 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, on the other hand insisted he has waited his whole life for this moment and he is not going to blow the golden opportunity.
Though Dawson admitted Hopkins is one of the best light heavyweight champions, he said this Saturday he is going to overpower him.
While speaking on his inclusion, Dawson said, “This is what I've been waiting for my whole life, since I was a little kid, to be fighting on this stage.”
“The best light heavyweight in the world was Bernard Hopkins, but Saturday night it's going to be me,” Dawson added.
Hopkins created history by becoming the oldest boxer to win a heavyweight title back in May 2011 when he defeated the Canadian boxer Jean Pascal via unanimous points’ decision in Montreal, Canada.
It is going to be his first title defence since then. Therefore, Hopkins will certainly bring out his best in the ring. However, all that is left to see is whether Hopkins can really win against his 17 years younger opponent or not.
