Bernard Hopkins critical of Shane Mosley’s touching gloves with Manny Pacquiao: Boxing News
The Executioner, Bernard Hopkins, who has been a former partner of Shane Mosley at the Golden Boy Promotions, was very critical of the way Mosley touched gloves throughout the fight with the Fighting Pride of Philippines, Manny Pacquiao, on Saturday
night.
He said that it looked as if he was having a friendly sparring session in front of a crowd over 16,000 fans and pay-per-view audience.
"Why did he keep touching gloves every round?" Hopkins said. "That's a sign of submission. It's part of the body language of submission to praise a guy and try to be friends. Every time Shane came out, he wanted to touch gloves and shake hands and
hug. At the end of the day, we're fighting. That's what we do. The referee says 'shake hands and come out fighting.' He doesn't say, 'shake hands every round.' That's on you."
The 46-year-old, Hopkins, who is aiming to win WBC light heavyweight crown against Jean Pascal on May 21 in order to become the oldest boxer to win a major world title, almost stopped short of saying Mosley should retire.
While speaking to media, he further added, "I can't say when a fighter should retire. People were calling for my head when I fought Roy Jones Jr. I will never be a guy who says another fighter should retire. That's an individual choice."
He also stated that he was surprised by the performance of the 39-year-old, Mosley, as he never thought it would all end up like this.
He admitted the fact that Mosley tried to put in a good show in the first round. After the knockdown something happened to him and he went into the survival mode.
It was a very easy win for the pound-for-pound king, Pacquiao, as he registered himself easily over Sugar Shane after a 12-round unanimous decision.
Manny Pacquiao, who has won 53 fights out of 58 including 38 knockouts, will probably face Juan Manuel Marquez in his next fight, as Manuel finally agreed upon the terms and conditions.
