Bernard Hopkins furious over David Haye’s performance against Wladimir Klitschko – Boxing news
The Executioner, Bernard Hopkins, who beat Jean Pascal to become the oldest boxer ever to win a world title at the age of 46, is furious over David Haye for his performance which he showed against the IBF, WBA, WBO, IBO and Ring Magazine’s world heavyweight
champion Wladimir Klitschko on July 2, 2011.
The Hayemaker, Haye and Dr. Steelhammer, Klitschko, were both scheduled in a highly anticipated unification bout for the heavyweight titles on July 2, 2011 at the Hamburg’s Football Stadium in Germany.
The 30-year-old brash Londoner, Haye, declared a lot ahead of his bout but on the fight night, he was seen in a defensive mode for almost all of the rounds. Therefore, he lost his World Boxing Association’s world heavyweight title via unanimous decision
in front of a crowd of over 60,000 people.
Hopkins, who has won 52 out of his 60 professional fights including 34 by the way of a knockout, told the media Haye had a chance to redeem the heavyweight division but he did not have any heart at all.
Haye was also seen losing his balance during the fight on many occasions as he fell down to the canvas many a times.
Hopkins remarked the time he saw Haye flopping down on his knees he knew it was all over for Haye.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “You can’t trash talk the way he did for two or three years and then not deliver. I don’t like to question any fighter’s heart. But to see him go in there and then keep flopping (onto the floor) I would spot him
20 lbs (in weight advantage).”
Hopkins added, “The heavyweight division has been in a coma for almost ten years and Haye was given the stage, the opportunity, to fight his heart out. If you do that, even if you don’t win, you can come back. But as soon as he started flopping down on his
knees I knew it was over.”
