Bernard Hopkins looking forward to eventually break Archie Moore’s record – Boxing news
Bernard ‘The Executioner’ Hopkins, who is the current World Boxing Council’s and the Ring Magazine’s Light Heavyweight champion of the world is targeting Archie Moore’s record of defending his title at the age of 47 or 48.
Bernard Hopkins recently defeated the Canadian boxer, Jean Pascal, to become the oldest boxer ever to win a heavyweight title at the age of 46 and he is now going to make his first historic title defence against the former titleholder and mandatory challenger,
Chad Dawson, on October 15, 2011 at the Staples Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Hopkins, who is also the former undisputed world Middleweight champion, showed his confidence against his opponent, as he claimed he eventually wants to break Archie ‘The Old Mongoose’ Moore’s record of defending his title at the age of 47 or 48.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “I am looking forward to eventually breaking Archie Moore's record of defending a title at the age of 47 or 48. I want that title. I want that record. I want that history.”
The American pugilist, Hopkins, who has won 52 of his 60 professional fights (1 draw, 2 no contest) including 34 by the way of a knockout, also stated he wants Dawson to give a tough time as otherwise it would look like as if he is giving him a handicap
or something.
Hopkins remarked, “I don't want Chad to be the laid back Chad. To be laid back on an old man is not good; you are doing me a favour. I want you to give me something to work against so I can be better. I am a good dancer, if my partner is just okay, it makes
me look bad.”
Staples Center was the same arena where Hopkins made history after beating Pascal and since his first historic title is also going to be at Staples Center, Hopkins is confident he will write something in the history books.
Hopkins claimed, “October 15 it is going down at STAPLES Center. History is going to be made again!”
