Bernard Hopkins says Chad Dawson knew he was going to lose – Boxing news
The Executioner, Bernard Hopkins, who is a former World Boxing Council and The Ring Light Heavyweight champion, has claimed that Chad Dawson used illegal tactics against him because he knew he was going to get beaten.
The 46-year-old Hopkins, who was controversially knocked out in the second round last Saturday on October 15 in Los Angeles, California, told the media that he is a slow starter and Dawson knows it very well.
"Of course you don't want to fight me," Hopkins said. "Of course you know I'm a slow starter and I'll figure you out and I'll take you apart. He knew that time was coming."
Hopkins, who has won 52 of his 62 professional fights (2 Draws, 1 no contest), with 34 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, insisted that he was thrown off like a football player yet the officiating referee did not call it a foul and rather it was
considered as a technical knockout.
“Boxing is so outdated," he said. "We're living by the rules and technologies of the day of 1929. 1929! They do it in football and they make the right call."
It was the first time that Hopkins was stopped during the fight in his career and he vowed that he is not going to walk away from the sport, as he does not want Dawson to be the reason for his retirement.
"I'm not going to give this guy the opportunity to have this be the last highlights of a storied career," Hopkins remarked.
The Golden Boy Promotions’ has appealed WBC to look into the matter and within a week the final decision will come out. Let’s see if WBC declares it as a no contest or announces a rematch between both fighters.
Meanwhile, Dawson’s promoter Gary Shaw has hinted that they do not want a rematch, as he said that if WBC will force his fighter for a rematch they will relinquish the title.
"We've given up belts before," Shaw said.
