Bernard Hopkins says comparing him with Chad Dawson is impractical – Boxing news
The current World Boxing Council and the Ring Magazine Light Heavyweight champion, Bernard Hopkins and the Bad, Chad Dawson, were present at press conferences in California and New York this week for the promotion of their fight.
Bernard Hopkins, who is set to defend his title against the former title holder and mandatory challenger, Chad Dawson, on October 15, 2011 at the Staples Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, believes Dawson is a not a fighter he should be compared with.
The American combatant, Hopkins, who became the oldest boxer ever to win a heavyweight title at the age of 46 after beating the Canadian pugilist Jean Pascal, told the media his resume cannot be compared to Dawson’s, as Hopkins thinks Dawson still has to
learn a lot in the sport.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “When you look at my resume and then you look at Chad's resume, it is like looking at Harvard and community college. No disrespect to community college.”
Dawson claimed he is going to win Hopkins as he said he is younger, stronger and faster than his 17 years younger opponent. Moreover, Dawson reckons since he is a southpaw he will upset Hopkins in the ring.
However Hopkins, who has won 52 of his 60 professional fights (2 draws, 1 no contest) including 34 wins by the way of a knockout, insisted he loves to fight the southpaws and has a pretty good record against them.
Hopkins remarked, “In my career I have gone 12-1 against southpaws. The only loss was to Joe Calzaghe, a fight which most people say I won. It was what it was. I love fighting southpaws because I am very unorthodox. I don't do things regularly and I am not
a regular fighter.”
“Chad Dawson has to prove that he belongs here and I have to prove that I'm special over and over again. I'm okay with that,” Hopkins added.
Let’s see if Hopkins can defend his historic title against Chad Dawson who is considered as the number 4 Light Heavyweight boxer in the world.
