Bernard Hopkins to defend WBC Light Heavyweight title against Chad Dawson – Boxing news
Steve Kim of Max Boxing has revealed that the American professional boxer, Bernard ‘The Executioner’ Hopkins, is going to defend his WBC Light Heavyweight title against the American professional boxer, Chad Dawson in their 12-round bout on October 15, 2011.
The venue of this fight could not be agreed upon yet but hopefully the two fighters will face to face each other in the US.
Steve Kim said, “Hopkins has got a decent fan base but it might be a big ask to have fans pay to see him fight. However, if Golden Boy Promotions can pair this with a good undercard then it’s possible for the fight card to bring in some good numbers. But
I wouldn’t be too happy to pay $40 to $50 to see Hopkins fight Dawson.”
Adding to this Kim said that he is not convinced with Hopkin’s last two fight performances especially when he lost the decision against Jean Pascal on August 14, 2010 fighting in Montreal, Canada.
No doubt Dawson has all the abilities to defeat Hopkins but he has not done a lot to convince his fans. It is still doubtful whether the Dawson vs. Hopkins fight will do huge business, because Dawson is not a big boxing prospect.
The former undisputed world Middleweight Champion, Hopkins is considered as one of the greatest Middleweight champions of all time. He has defended his World Middleweight title for a record 20 times against the best Middleweights of the world.
The minority partner of Golden Boy Promotions, Hopkins became the oldest boxer in history to win a world title when at the age of 46, he defeated Jean Pascal on May 21, 2011 by scoring a unanimous points decision.
The 46-year-old experienced, Hopkins fought 60 of his total fights of which he won 52 competitive bouts including 34 knockout victories with 5 losses and 2 draws in his career.
Hopefully the competition between the Light Heavyweight contender, Chad ‘Bad’ Dawson and Bernard Hopkins will be interesting and competitive one to watch.
