Bernard Hopkins to stay silent until Chad Dawson rematch – Boxing News
Unlike most pugilists, Bernard Hopkins has decided to stay silent until he gets his hands on Chad Dawson in their rematch scheduled for April 28 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA. Chad Dawson, on the other hand, has not spared Hopkins.
He has thrown harsh comments on Hopkins time and again.
Hopkins currently stands with 52 wins, 5 losses, 2 ties and 32 knockouts in his portfolio, whereas Dawson has bagged 30 victories, 1 loss and 17 knockouts to date. Of course, Hopkins is the more experienced fighter between the two, however his being 47 gives
Dawson an edge.
It should be noted here that both the fighters have shared a lot of bitterness in the recent past. Their last fight ended up in a controversy, which led to Dawson’s strip off by the WBC. It was in last October when Hopkins was holding onto the WBC light
heavyweight title. During the second round, Dawson lifted up Hopkins and smashed him on the canvas, which definitely was not a boxing move. The move damaged Hopkins’ shoulder. Even though the referee declared Dawson the winner, the WBC stripped him of the
title later and the fight was declared as a No Contest.
Dawson has been irked since then over Hopkins. In his recent interview, Dawson iterated, “I must have watched the tape of it 20 times. I know I didn't slam him but I watched it so many times to see if it
looked like I slammed him. All I did was move back and slide out from the headlock he had me in. I was defending myself. He was putting my elbow into my neck. The referee wasn't saying anything. How else was I going to defend myself?”
Dawson has been on Hopkins since their last encounter. He has made sure that everyone gets to know he just ‘self-defended’ himself. However, what is surprising here is the fact that Hopkins, instead of retaliating, has taken a vow of silence. According to
Hopkins, in the ring, he will show Dawson who the better man is and that talking does no good to anyone.
