Bernard Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson: Hopkins geared up for historic title defence – Boxing news
The current World Boxing Council’s and the Ring Magazine’s Light Heavyweight champion, Bernard Hopkins, is fully charged ahead of his first historic title defence against the former title holder and mandatory challenger, Chad Dawson, on October 15, 2011
at the Staples Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The 46-year-old American combatant, Hopkins, who has won 52 of his 60 fights (2 draw, 1 no contest), with 34 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, told the media boxing always separates the good ones from the bad ones.
Hopkins challenged Dawson in the press conference and said, “Let’s work together to see who whoops whose a*s worse. Chumps do exist in boxing. This sport separates the chumps from champs.”
Hopkins has vast experience in the sport. He is also the former undisputed world Middleweight champion. Moreover, he is the first fighter to retain all 4 world titles of each major sanctioning body plus the Ring belt. Therefore, Hopkins thinks Dawson will
be a piece of cake for him.
Hopkins also claimed he is much younger than a 46-year-old man as far as his physical fitness is concerned.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “Age and wisdom cannot be compromised. I have a PhD in what I do. It says that I am 46 years old on my birth certificate. It can be argued that I m 10 years younger than I actually am. Me and Father Time are always
debating whether it is time or not.”
“I am willing to walk that tight rope without a safety net. That is what fighting means to me. To be daring or to be dangerous takes courage,” Hopkins added.
Staples Center is the same place where the Executioner, Bernard Hopkins, beat the Canadian pugilist, Jean Pascal, to become the oldest boxer ever to win the heavyweight title at the age of 46.
However let’s see if Hopkins can register another win at Staples Center against the man who is considered as the number 4 best Light Heavyweight boxer in the world by the Ring Magazine.
