Bernard Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson officially announced – Boxing news
Bernard Hopkins will fight Chad Dawson on April 28 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The bout was announced by Hopkins and Dawson together in a joint press conference yesterday, Wednesday night.
This was the first time both fighters met and spoke to each other after their controversial bout ending on October 15, 2012. At the conference, none of them had much to say.
Dawson remarked, “I want a fair fight. I want Bernard to come out and fight.” As a reply, Hopkins said, “All was said.”
Both fighters did not really seem comfortable with each other at the event. Their rematch was announced for April 18, which will now be Dawson’s chance to prove his mettle. “I wanted to fight Bernard Hopkins. I wanted to beat Bernard Hopkins. When he pulled
that stunt he pulled it messed up all my plans. This time all I want is a fair fight,” he said.
Dawson even went on to call Bernard a punk and advised him to fight fair in their upcoming bout. On Bernard’s presence and his silence, Dawson said that Bernard was afraid of facing him at the faceoff since he is in a position he never thought he would be
in. Speaking about his fighting skills, Dawson said that he could have defeated Hopkins with just one finger.
When Dawson went on and on, Hopkins could not hold it and finally burst out saying frustration is a part of Dawson’s character and that he (Hopkins) knows how to exploit his frustration mentally and physically. He further said that he has a tool, which Bernard
cannot fix overnight, and that right now he is physically and mentally reckless, therefore he is showing signs of aggression, which makes him vulnerable.
Both the fighters are currently at the top of their game. Dawson has stepped into the ring 33 times, winning 30 of the fights while losing one and ending two at No Contest. He has knocked out his opponents 18 times to grab the victory.
On the other hand, Bernard has stepped in the ring 61 times, won 52 fights, lost 5 and ended 2 in no contests and 2 in draws. He has knocked out his opponents 32 times.
