Bernard Johnson clinches Men’s 200m breaststroke gold – US Open Swimming Championships
Bernard Johnson of Palo Alto Stanford clinched gold medal of the Men’s 200m breaststroke on day two of the 2012 US Open Swimming Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Wednesday, August 8.
The 25-year-old Johnson stifled hopes of his opponents in the distant breaststroke race as he rushed his way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal of the event.
With his impeccable pace, he managed to outperform his closest swimmer over the finishing end for gold medal with a timing of 2 minutes 10.87 seconds.
The champion enjoyed an advantage of 0.05 seconds over Kevin Cordes of University of Arizona, who followed him on the victory stand for silver medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 10.92 seconds.
Cordes was followed by Mihail Alexandrov of Trojan Swim Club, who stayed 0.72 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and hit the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 11.62 seconds for bronze medal.
Alexandrov was trailed by Cody Miller of Indiana University, who stayed only 0.10 seconds apart and settled on the finishing end as fourth fastest swimmer by posting a time of 2 minutes and 11.72 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Matthew Elliott of Peoria Area-IL, who remained 0.34 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and touched the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 12.06 seconds.
Elliott was traced by Richard Webb of I.T.C, who was 1.50 seconds apart and made his way to the finishing wall for sixth position by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 13.61 seconds.
Webb was followed by Nicholas Fink of Cougar Aquatic Team, who remained half body length behind and touched the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 14.15 seconds.
Eighth position of the discipline was secured by Robert Holderness of Swim Wales, who could not manage to overpower any of the finalists and concluded his race in a time of 2 minutes and 14.84 seconds.
Johnson was contented with his gold claiming effort in the race and said that he would try to achieve the same in future events.
