Bernard Tomic aims to top the tennis world in the next ATP season– Tennis Season
One of the fastest rising tennis stars of the 2011 ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) season, Bernard Tomic, is extremely optimistic for his future endeavours in the next year. The 42nd ranked Australian believes that he will carry on his brilliant run in the sport and will break in the Top-10 by the end of 2012 ATP season.
Tomic is fully determined to get his place among the top performers in the professional circuit and hopes he will celebrate his 20th birthday in October next year as one of the Top-10 players in the South African Airways ATP World Rankings. The Aussie might have sounded a bit too over ambitious but his performances in the 2011 ATP season have already revealed that the teenager has got the mettle to stand among the best tennis players in the world.
“I would love to be in the top 10 by my next birthday," said Tomic on Tuesday."If not, I am looking to be in the top 20. It will be a hard task but I have done well this year. I have a lot of tournaments where I can get points in the next six months.”
Tomic took off the 2011 ATP season as the 208th ranked player in the world rankings but rocketed away to the 42nd spot by end of the year. The Australian from Gold Coast had a winning record of 16-15 in the season and is still looking forward to bag his maiden ATP championship title. He believes he will get his hands on more than one trophy in the coming season and the Aussie fans hope that he certainly does.
The 19-year-old Australian prodigy came under the lime light after his amazing Grand Slam run at this year’s Wimbledon Championships. He had some close encounters in the qualifying draw of the tournament but managed to make it to the main rounds to prove his amazing abilities. Tomic took down a number of top class competitors, including former world number three, Nikolay Davydenko, Igor Andreev, then world number five Robin Soderling and Xavier Malisse of Belgium to book a spot in the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam tournament.
He was up against the second seeded mighty Serb, Novak Djokovic, in the quarter-final to fight for his maiden semis’ berth at Wimbledon. Djokovic blew away the Aussie in the opening set but Tomic made his way right back in the business to clinch the second set, levelling the matchup at one-all. Djokovic shifted his gears in the contest to reel off the following two set and then eventually claimed the Grand Slam title after defeating the world number one, Rafael Nadal in the final.
Tomic’s quarter-final run at Wimbledon took him to the 71st spot in the world rankings and he kept with his roll to improve further by the end of the season. His performances at the ATP Challenger Tour events have been even better, hinting the capabilities of the Aussie teenager.
Tomic is very inspired from her fellow Gold Coast player, Samantha Stosur, who beat all the odds to claim her first grand Slam title at the US Open this year. The Aussie will be taking off his 2012 ATP season from Brisbane International next month and hopes to show his wonders with the racquet to have an impactful beginning to the year. The 19-year-old will certainly be under pressure while competing in the next season, as he knows he has to take on the legacy of Australian tennis after the former world number one Australian, Lleyton Hewitt’s career is on its last breaths. Tomic is certainly up for it and his abilities will improve as he plays more tennis in the professional circle.
