Bernard Tomic corroborates to play the Davis Cup tie – Tennis News
Australian booming star, Bernard Tomic, confirmed to play in the upcoming Davis Cup Tie taking place in Geelong, Australia. His team will face China in the first round of the Asia/Oceania Group I on Feb 10th to Feb 12th.
Tomic is currently enjoying his career best rank 36th in the South African Airways ATP World Rankings. His tremendous form and brilliant skills this season forced the team captain, Pat Rafter, to choose him as his first choice for the singles
event.
The Australian number one displayed his best tennis at the Australian Open 2012. He made a fourth round showing at this first of the four Grand Slam event held at his home soil. The Aussie stunned Fernando Verdasco and Alexandr Dolgopolov en route to the
pre-quarter round. Despite losing to the Swiss Master Roger Federer, Tomic was appreciated by everyone for his performance.
The Aussie is fired up this season as he cruised into the final four at Brisbane International before losing to the eventual champion and the top seed, Andy Murray. He then grabbed a title at the Kooyong ATP Exhibition event after upsetting big stars like
Tomas Berdych, Gael Monfils and Mardy Fish before entering the Melbourne Grand Slam.
Tomic, who won the Australian Open juniors title in 2008, was at his best form last season. He made a title round appearance at the Caloundra Challenger and final four showings at the Nottingham Challenger twice before unleashing his skills at the Wimbledon
Championships. The 19-year-old made an exceptional seven match winning run at this third Grand Slam event before ousting in the quarter-finals by the world number one, Novak Djokovic. However, his form dipped afterwards and he exited from the early rounds
from many tournaments.
Lleyton Hewitt, who also made a fourth round berth at the Australian Open, will also be featuring in the Davis Cup team of Australia. Other team members include Matthew Ebden, world number 83, and Chris Guccione, who will play the doubles match.
Australia will square off against the lower ranked Chinese team at the Geelong Lawn Tennis Club in Geelong, Australia.
Ze Zhang and Di Wu are most likely to play singles from the Chinese team.
