Bernard Tomic denies having any problem with his father – Tennis News
Bernard Tomic backed his father as a coach and played down all the rumours that he had a spat with his mentor.
The 19-year-old seemed to have had a spat with his father, John, during the Sony Ericsson Open last week.
The world number 36 was spotted getting irritated by his father’s actions during the former’s second round clash against David Ferrer in Miami. Bernard requested the chair umpire to remove Tomic senior from the stands as the latter
was annoying him. The Australian lost the match in twin sets 4-6, 4-6.
However, Tomic told the media men, as he was getting ready for his country’s encounter with South Korea at the Davis Cup, he was astonished when he got to know that the incident was getting such huge attention.
The Australian said, "I don't know how it makes news. It's a complete load of c**p how that makes news. There's a lot of stuff that can happen. But its stuff that you experience in life and you learn from these things - it's a
good learning curve."
Tomic added, when asked if he would be cautious next time, "Absolutely. That was a small problem. It's all fixed. My dad is the right guy to coach me - he's always been. We have always got along. Father-son relationships are always
a bit tricky but there's no doubt my dad will be there for me. I have gotten to where I am because of him."
The Australian also denied that he was under pressure as he is going to lead his country for the first time at the Davis Cup.
Former world number one, Lleyton Hewitt, will not be playing for Australia due to a foot injury but the veteran will be representing his country as a court side mentor at the tie.
Tomic said Hewitt is the leader and this is their team’s bad luck that the two-time Grand Slam champion is unfit to play. He hoped that his senior would be fit for the next tie. Hewitt had recently undergone a toe surgery and will
be out of action till June.
However, Australia’s non playing captain, Patrick Rafter, said his burden has eased after knowing that Hewitt would be present during the tie in Brisbane.
Rafter has yet not decided who will be supporting Tomic, as the number two player, but chances are that world number 75, Matthew Ebden, would be the one.
