Bernard Tomic gets beaten by Mikhail Youzhny in the opening round – Swiss Indoors Basel 2012
Australian number one, Bernard Tomic, suffered an embarrassing loss at the hands of Russia’s sixth seeded player, Mikhail Youzhny, in the first round of the Swiss Indoors Basel.
The Australian player managed to win just a couple of games in the entire match, losing the contest in straight sets 0-6, 2-6 in just 56 minutes and crashing out of the event.
Tomic was unable to pose any challenge to his Russian opponent in the first set, as he failed to hold his serve even once, losing six games in a row to go down 0-6.
Second set was looking to be competitive at the start, as both players went on equal terms in the first four games to square off the proceedings at 2-2. However, Youzhny took charge again after that, grabbing four back to back
and closing it 6-2.
Tomic’s woes are not coming to an end, as he has failed to perform well even at a single event since reaching the second round of the French Open. The Australian rising star, who had gained his career best ranking of 27 earlier
in this season, is at the 48th position now and may fall out of the top 50 after this first round loss.
Roger Rasheed, who is a former coach of Lleyton Hewitt and Gael Monfils, thinks that Tomic should discuss the issues he is facing with his father and try to resolve them.
He said, "Ok, time for Bernard Tomic to sit down with his father & work out what he (Bernie) wants from the sport - A long term plan & Enjoyment needed.”
Tennis analyst, Darren Cahill, stated about the newly turned 20, "Someone needs to put Bernie Tomic on the flying kangaroo. Year was done weeks ago. Charge up the batteries, get faster & stronger for 2013."

He added, “For what it's worth, I think Roger Rasheed would be a good coaching fit for Bernard Tomic. Plenty of support in Rafter, Roche, Todd.W & co."
Youzhny will now take on another Australian player, Matthew Ebden, in the second round of this ATP World 500 indoor hard court event.
