Bernard Tomic is on the verge of a major downfall – Tennis News
World number 52, Bernard Tomic, is captured by the critics’ radar once again and it is not long after some harsh remarks from Pat Rafter who tagged the performance of the 20-year-old Aussie star in the Davis Cup tie against Germany
as ‘disgraceful’. However, the recent criticism is directing some positives for the youngster who has been surrounded by several controversies and rude comments.
The Fellow Queenslander, Josh Eagle, who is coaching Marinko Matosevic at the moment, took some time out to meet the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, in the event at Basel where the 17-time Grand Slam Champion reached the final while
on the other hand, the 20-year-old Tomic just bagged a couple of games in the first round contest against the experienced Mikhail Youzhny.
Eagle commented afterwards, “Federer was suggesting that he could relate a little bit to the pressure that Tomic was facing as he is essentially one of the young guns marked for success. Fed was saying how when he was young he
used to get frustrated and angry during matches and then end up playing badly.”
He further stated, “I was surprised at how aware the top guys were of Tomic and his progression. A year ago, most players were a little scared of playing him. He must be careful that he keeps performing; otherwise he loses the
X-factor that he had worked hard to get.”
There is no doubt that the Aussie player in under a lot of pressure to perform at the elite stages. He is too young to be burdened so much with the expectations from the home fans. One of the four Grand Slam Championships of the
season, the Australian Open, is played at his home soil and everyone in the pavilion believes that the Aussie youngster can pull up an upset, one after another which is impossible for a player who is new to the world of professional tennis. He needs time to
settle down as stated by the former world number one and the 17-time Grand Slam Champion. Everyone needs to ease pressure on him so that he can play his natural game and score few wins that will help him regain some confidence.
