Bernard Tomic may face three years in Jail and a $20,000 fine
Australian number one, Bernard Tomic, will appear in court on February 14th, 2012 after facing two charges. He is accused of not stopping his car when the police requested and not keeping his car to the left of double dividing lines on the road. The youngster could face a three year jail time and a $20,000 fine for breaking these laws.
The incidents happened on the January 26th, Australia Day holiday when the 19-year-old was ticketed twice by police while driving his V8 BMW M3 on Albert Avenue at Broadbeach. He was given a A$300 infringement notice around 12.40 pm.
Police blames that the ticket was for driving a high-powered vehicle in breach of the special conditions of his licence.
The youngster was stopped again in Surf Parade at Broadbeach near 3 p.m. where he received another ticket with same offense.
"There is a determination to be made about conditions in relation to his driving that will be decided at a later time," Inspector Glen Allen told reporters outside the house on Thursday evening.
He also spoke to the family and lawyer Lex Bell, who is a former Gold Coast mayor.
"Their options are to make a complaint to the Crime and Misconduct Commission or the Ethical Standards Command," he said, adding that the young tennis star had been "understanding and reasonable".
The Aussie has received special exemption from his provisional license to drive his high-powered car to and from tennis training only.
Tomic has hired the top lawyer of the country, Chris Nyst, who claims that the youngster hasn’t broken any law.
"What I've seen so far I can't see that Bernard's done anything wrong," Mr Nyst told the Nine network. "We're talking about a teenager who's been alleged to have done the most minor of traffic infringements," he said.
The Lawyer is hoping to meet Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson to settle the matter.
Last year the Aussie teenager became the youngest man to reach the final eight at the Wimbledon Championships and grabbed his first senior title at the Kooyong Classic this season.
He lost to a former world number one, Roger Federer, at the Australian Open 2012, first of the four Grand Slam event held in Melbourne, before this incident occurred.
