Bernard Tomic needs a makeover, believes John Newcombe – Tennis News
Australian tennis legend, John Newcombe, thinks that if Bernard Tomic wants to rise again then he will have to completely change his attitude, increase his fitness level and alter his predictable game.
The former world number one and seven-time Grand Slam champion said in a recent interview, "Bernie's out in the real world now and I don't think he's come to that conclusion.”
Newcombe added that the way things are going for Tomic right now the Australian player might have to go out of the top 100 players in the world.
The Australian added, "They're trained killers out there. I think Bernie thinks it's just going to happen and it's not. Unless he's prepared to devote 100 per cent of time and effort to becoming as good as he could become, it doesn't
matter who his coach is. It's going to fall apart. The answer to Bernard is Bernard. Until Bernie makes a decision on what he's willing to do and draws a line in the sand and knuckles down, he's not going to fulfill his full potential."
Tomic got a sudden prominence on the tennis scene, when he went through the qualifying matches to reach the quarter-finals of the Wimbledon Championships last year. Still in the teenage at that time, the Australian rising star
made a superb start to this season as well. He began it by reaching the last-four stage at the Brisbane International and fourth round of the Australian Open.
He also advanced to the quarter-finals at two ATP World Tour 250 events in Delray Beach and Munich but his bad patch started after that. The right-hander participated in 17 events but succeeded in winning back to back matches at
just two of them. The Australian player lost a mountain of ranking points after getting stunned in the first round of Wimbledon in this year. During that poor run, Tomic lost his opening match at 10 tournaments.
The Australian player often finds himself in some controversy and that’s not good for him. If Tomic fails to defend his points during the Australian summer, he might fall out of the top 100 ranked players and then he will have
to qualify for big events.
