Bernard Tomic receives a tag of ‘disgraceful’ by Pat Rafter - Tennis News
Aussie teenager, Bernard Tomic, is under the cosh once again and this time he has been bashed by the captain of his native country’s team, Pat Rafter, who has tagged him as ‘disgraceful’. It is a major statement against anyone
especially if the player is the leading professional player from his country.
The 19-year-old Aussie has already faced major concerns related to his car hooning incident that also rocked everyone at the Australian Tennis Federation. The racket tantrum controversy was the next to follow and now the hatred
from the Davis Cup captain will probably dismantle the image of the teenager.
Rafter commented about Tomic’s performance at the US Open stating “I threw out the big D word, disgraceful, to him yesterday. That’s just the way it was. He’s got to learn. There’s no use sugar-coating something, he has to do the
work, and I’m sick and tired of tip-toeing around it, and I think everyone else is as well. He needs to realise that’s what he needs to do, and he says he does.”
The series of controversies has entangled the kid and that can clearly hamper his performance at the elite platform. He was amongst the Top-30 players of the world but now he is nowhere near amongst the 50 most elite athletes in
the world of tennis. The damage has already been done and there is more to come.
Rafter further added, “We’ve got two weeks now of Davis Cup coming up and that’s hard work, and hard training, so he has to pull his socks up if he wants to be part of this team, and train hard and work hard.” He also warned the
Aussie superstar that there is no confirm spot for him in the Davis Cup tie against the German squad that will take place in Hamburg from September 14-16.
It is definitely tough time for the Aussie teenager but his attitude needs a bit of change and the autocratic style of leadership from Rafter might help him improve as a player and as a person as well.
