Bernard Tomic threatened to fall out of the Top-50 – Tennis News
Australian number one, Bernard Tomic, faces a serious threat of falling out of the Top-50 rank after he lost against the defending champion, Novak Djokovic, in the second round of Rogers Cup, a hard court tennis championship
in Toronto, Canada. He faced his eighth defeat after the French Open.
The 19-year-old’s career faced serious slump this season, especially the past eight weeks, and his rankings have considerably dropped from world number 27 to 49. He miserably failed to perform well in the Grand
Slam Tournament. Tomic had been the quarter-finalist at the 2011 Wimbledon Championships, a feat he never repeated since last year.
He started the current season with a steady performance and had he continued the similar trend, he might have maintained a decent spot by the year end. He was the 20th seed at the Wimbledon Championship
this year but he faced a serious upset against the unseeded, David Goffin in first round.
The Australian secured a win against the German Michael Berrer by 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the first round of the Toronto Masters. A promising start from the Aussie in Montreal was brutally hampered by the Serbian tennis ace, Djokovic,
who proved too strong for him and inflicted a straight set defeat to him at 6-2 and 6-3. This levelled Tomic's win-loss ratio to 20-20 for the running season.
Initially Tomic struggled hard to equalize the scores at 2-2 but Djokovic picked momentum and struck a 6-2 lead in the match. He was only able to hit a few aces in the match and failed to respond effectively to most of the
first deliveries. On the other hand, the Serbian secured 11 out of 22 and seven out of 12 points in the contest.
In the second set, the Australian faced tough competition to stand the pressure and giving Djokovic an initial lead. He tried to build up some pace and hit five aces with no double fault. Nevertheless, Tomic quickly lost
momentum and gave the top seeded player an opportunity to mark a breakthrough and resulting in his a 3-6 loss.
Tomic needs to improve his game plan if he intends to continue tennis as a professional sport in the future. He still has some hope and can surely use it to his advantage, provided if passion is still alive.
