Bernard Tomic under a whole lot of criticism after Australia crash out of the Davis Cup – Tennis News
Davis Cup captain of Australia, Pat Rafter, surprised everyone by tagging the 42nd ranked star, Bernard Tomic, as a ‘disgraceful’ to the world of tennis after the second round battering at the hands of the former world
number one, Andy Roddick. He stated that because the 19-year-old Aussie surrendered at the start of the second set; playing just for the sake of completing three sets. However, the youngster had a different point of view and the clash of ideas created grudges
between the two professionals.
In the Davis Cup tie against Brazil, Tomic again portrayed the lack of concern for his country as he was hammered away in straight sets 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 by Florian Mayer. Australia was leading 2-1 before the encounter and now they
were forced to win the final rubbers match to stay in the World Group but the veteran former world number one, Lleyton Hewitt, couldn’t hand for long against the 130th ranked Cedrik-Marcel Stebe.
This time the former professional Brett Phillips stated that Tony Roche was sitting just behind the teenager during his straight sets battering and explained his expressions in the following fashion, “We don't know what was said,
but it was animated. It's on the line here … can you get some intensity about you?"
Philips explained further about the performance of the 19-year-old Aussie as “really disappointing effort and lackadaisical. He almost waved the white flag… he just didn't dig deep enough… he was seemingly going through the motions."
It is disappointing to see the young superstar who is wasting his talent in the hullaballoo that has surrounded him in the recent past. The end of the last season was extremely disgusting from the Aussie starlet who was caught
twice for over speeding and rash driving; in short hooning. It is extremely painful for a player as well to be monitored by millions of fans because it kills their personal life as well. Small news about their happening in the life is portrayed at all platforms
of media that leaves them in a whole lot of trouble than a layman.
Paul McNamee, an Australian tennis legendary icon stated, “In winning matches away, overseas countries are clearly going to play us on clay, which is Lleyton's weakest surface and Bernard Tomic's weakest surface.”
Aussie players are not exposed to clay court practice most of the times and hence they find it difficult to survive on such fields. It is high time for the Tennis Federation of Australia to introduce red dirt surfaces as well.
