Bernd Boente says Vitali Klitschko could be David Haye’s next opponent – Boxing news
Manager of Wladimir Klitschko Bernd Boente has said that Vitali Klitschko could be the next opponent for the former WBA world heavyweight champion, David Haye.
David ‘The Hayemaker’ Haye recently lost his unification bout for the heavyweight titles against the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on July 2, 2011 at the Imtech Arena in Hamburg, Germany.
Haye is now desperate for a rematch against Klitschko, as he wants to avenge his defeat. However, his offer has been denied by Dr. Steelhammer, Klitschko, who is now looking for a bout against the Del Boy, Dereck Chisora or Tyson Fury.
Bernd Boente however has shown Haye a lifeline by putting an option of Wladimir’s elder brother, Vitali ‘Dr. Ironfist’ Klitschko.
Boente admitted he knows Haye has retirement plans on his 31st birthday, which is coming up in October 2011 but on the same note he said Vitali already has a fight scheduled Tomasz Adamek in October but afterwards he can fix a match between Haye
and Vitali.
“I know Haye intends to retire in October, but the fight we would like to see is Vitali Klitschko against David Haye,” said Boente. “But Vitali will first fight Adamek in October. Then I would like to see Haye versus Vitali. It is a fight I have in my mind,
and it is definitely possible.”
The Haye-Wladimir bout was one of the biggest bouts in the British history, which was held in front of a crowd of over 60,000 people.
Boente reckons the Vitali vs. Haye bout will be a very big fight as well and it will be a great promotion as well. Boente thinks Haye’s only chance to redeem himself now lies against Vitali, who has won 42 of his 44 fights including 39 by the way of a knockout.
“I think it would be a good fight, and a great promotion - Haye's chance to redeem himself against the other Klitschko,” he said.
Let’s see if Haye is going to delay his retirement plans to fight against Vitali or not.
