Bernd Ritthammer eager to shine at the D+D Real Czech Challenge Open – Golf news
After securing the runner-up’s spot last week at the Fred Olsen Challenge de España, Bernd Ritthammer of Germany is now confident to go one better this week at the D+D Real Czech Challenge Open.
It was the German’s best finish on the European Challenge Tour last week and he believes that his performance in Spain has greatly boosted his morale, which may help him secure the first Challenge Tour victory of his career.
In 2011, Ritthammer finished 34th in the Challenge Tour rankings and then secured his European Tour card for the 2012 golf season through the qualifying school. He then struggled on the tier-one tour and slipped back to the 108th
position in the Challenge Tour rankings at the end of the season.
As a result, his name was added to the category 11 for the Challenge Tour, which means that he will be allowed to make limited starts this season, until he secures a victory in an event.
That is the reason why he is trying his best to make the best out of his limited opportunities, and join the Challenge Tour’s winning circle this season.
“I’ve had a long season already,” said Ritthammer. “I’ve played ten events on the Pro Golf Tour (formerly EPD Tour) and have performed well, winning twice and finishing second twice, so I’ve been feeling very good.”
“Under my category I know I will not get to play many events and therefore I need to make the very most of them when I do. I got into the Barclays Kenya Open and managed to finish tied seventh, missed the cut at the Challenge de
Madrid... Last week was my third chance and so I was very happy to finish second,” he added.
Despite his sufferings from knee problem in the last few weeks, he has been able to perform well in each of the starts he has made so far on the Challenge Tour.
Therefore, one can expect another good run from him this week, when the D+D Real Czech Challenge Open will be kicked off at the Golf & Spa Kunetická Hora.
