Bernd Ritthammer relishes the opportunity to participate in the Kazakhstan Open
Last year, Bernd Ritthammer participated in the Kazakhstan Open and tied for the third position – his best finish of the 2011 European Challenge Tour season.
A few weeks later, he appeared in the European Tour Q-school and made it to the bigger stage. He credited his success to the morale boost that he received at the Zhailjau Golf Resort.
“It definitely gave me a confidence boost last year and it would do the same again because my year has gone really badly so far,” he said. “I'm really looking forward to having a good week some time soon and hopefully it will be next week because the prize
money is so big”.
Earlier in 2012, he struggled on the European Tour and decided to return to the Challenge Tour once again.
He now needs to record some good finishes, if he wants to create any chances of adding the European Tour events to his schedule for the 2013 season.
“This will be my third time in Kazakhstan and I like the country,” said the 25-year-old. “There is always good weather, the hotel is great, the courses I have played there are really good. The people are nice and the food is good, so what more do you need?
“Last year, I didn’t perform very well prior to Kazakhstan. I only had one top ten before that so Kazakhstan was a very important week for me and I hope I can repeat that this year”.
Kazakhstan Open is no doubt the biggest tournament on the Challenge Tour and is regarded as a “Major” tournament of the tier-two European golf schedule.
While talking to the European Tour’s official website, he admitted that he put a great deal of pressure on himself, right from the start of the European Tour season this year.
As a result, he worsened his chances of making the cuts in each of the tournament that he played. He now plans to change his approach completely, if given the chance to content in 2013.
According to him, only experience can teach a player a good lesson, if they struggle to contend on bigger stages.
