The former Real Madrid tactician believes Jose Mourinho’s charges have what it takes to deny Bayern Munich the chance to play Champions League final at the Allianz Arena.
Los Blancos overcame the challenge of an inspired Sporting Gijon at the Santiago Bernabeu, winning the tie against the struggling La Liga outfit with three goals to one.
With the league win on their back, Real Madrid turn their attention to UEFA Champions League fixtures and will take on the challenge of Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday, April 17, 2012.
As the Spanish giants travel to the German capital in search of their 10th European trophy, there is little to separate them from the Bavarian titans.
Both semi-finalists are in top form which has led to nail-biting predictions for the two legged affair.
Former Real Madrid manager, Bernd Schuster, talked to reporters on the topic and claimed that the outfit from the Iberian Peninsula have a slight edge in the European fixtures.
Schuster argued that Los Blancos have been consistent throughout the 2011/12 season, while the Bundesliga outfit trail Borussia Dortmund in their domestic competition.
"From my point of view, Madrid are slight favourites," Schuster said while talking to Bild.
"They are having a great season in all competitions and in La Liga they are above http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604, who keep being the best side in the world."
Continuing on the topic, Schuster stated that Bayern will have to be on their toes to stop Real Madrid attackers who are deadly in front of the goal.
However, he added that the Bavarian side will need to dispossess Madrid in the midfield to damage them on the pitch.
"Madrid's defensive players are not involved in the attacking flow of play, so they give the ball right away to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Xabi-Alonso-c37045."
"It is important to prevent that from happening. If http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-Ronaldo-c9629 and the rest of the attackers have to move down the pitch to get the ball, they will end up getting tired.”
"Moreover, every time that Madrid lose the ball in their own half, it damages them badly."
With the first leg in Munich, the second leg of the Champions League semi-final is scheduled for April 25th at the Santiago Bernabeu.
