The former West http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 international has insisted that Barcelona should pip aside Real Madrid in order to have any chance of winning this season’s La Liga.
Former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, Bernd Schuster, has revealed that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 will have to beat Real Madrid in order to stand a chance of retaining their league crown. He was talking ahead of Saturday’s El Clasico at the Camp
Nou on April 21.
Madrid are currently leading the league standings with 85 points, four points clear of their closest title rivals, Barcelona. With five games still to be played this season, both teams are certainly in contention for the league
crown.
However, Schuster believes that the Catalan giants must record a win at home against Los Blancos to put further pressure on Jose Mourinho’s men. He also criticised Mourinho’s team management who has only used up his limited resources
throughout the season so far which might be a concerning factor regarding the players fitness levels.
Schuster encouraged the way Pep Guardiola has taken care of his Catalonian side by providing everyone in the squad an opportunity to prove their worth. He warned the reigning European Champions against Madrid’s backlash despite
being hosts of an all important El Clasico which could also decide the season for either side.
While talking to AS, the 52-year-old further added:
"A Barcelona win would open up the league, and a defeat or a draw would leave the title in Madrid's hands. If they lose, it'd be a very big blow. Unlike Barcelona, Mourinho has used 13 or 14 players’ players this season. At the
end of the season, there are a lot of high-tempo games. Pep was able to manage the group better."
On the other hand, Schuster also showered praise on Barcelona’s star-man, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296. The Argentinean has been a revelation for the Spanish side ever since he started playing for the senior side in 2004.
The former midfielder mused that Messi is a special player and admitted that he has hardly seen anyone of the same quality in all these years. The star attacker has already bagged 160 league goals from 209 appearances so far including
41 this season from only 32 outings until now.
"Each week he seems to grow as a footballer. I've seen many players in my time, but none like him," Schuster concluded.
Schuster also represented Barcelona for eight years (1980-1988) and netted 63 times from 170 outings before moving to Real Madrid.
