Bernd Wiesberger wins the Ballantine's Championship, the first European tour title
Bernd Wiesberger scored 4-under 68 in the final round of the Ballantine's Championship, recorded his debut win at the European Tour.
The 26-year-old Austrian professional golf player amazed the spectators by displaying three bogey-free rounds.
He shot 18-under 270 in the four-day tournament and won the title at the Blackstone Golf Club, Icheon in Seoul, South Korea.
"I played the best three rounds of my life over the last few days,'' Wiesberger said. ''My game plan was to hit as many greens as possible and give myself birdie putts. I had bad pace early on today and left a few short, but they dropped in the end".
He teed off the event on Thursday, carded two bogeys and one double-bogey in the first round. He also made four birdies but was lacking behind in scoring well.
On Friday, he competed well throughout the day. He achieved the top leaderboard position, after playing his first bogey-free round and by scoring seven massive birdies.
He continued his enormous scoring in the third round and again shot seven birdies. He delivered his best in South Korea and maintained his leading position on Saturday amazingly
The three-time professional tournament winner added four more birdies on Sunday, in the final round of the European Tour staged, the Ballantine's Championship.
“I tried not to make bogeys and I did that pretty well, it was awesome,” Wiesberger said. "I didn't get nervous, I had three or four shots. There was a pretty shaky moment at 12 but I made a great chip and a putt for par, but I just tried to enjoy it the
last three or four holes in".
He defeated Richie Ramsay of Scotland by five strokes. Ramsay scored 13-under 275 and was unable to beat the enormous scoring of Wiesberger.
However, Ramsay’s performance in the last two rounds was amazing. He shot 68 and 65 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
On the other hand, he was also bogey-free in both the rounds and secured the runner-up position at the tournament’s day-end.
Now, Wiesberger has started his winning career at the European Tour. He is capable enough to be a proud winner in the upcoming tournaments as well, if he continues his outstanding performance.
