Bernd Wiesberger all set for a mammoth win at the Ballantine’s Championship on Sunday: Wrap-up part-1
Austrian Bernd Wiesberger has set the pace for his maiden victory on the European Tour and has pulled in consecutive magical rounds of seven-under, 65 in the last two days to grab the lead by a huge margin.
The two time Challenge Tour winner has gone through the painful scenario of losing his European Tour card in 2010 and is hoping not to let the history repeat itself this year.
Wiesberger said, “I think that's what we call a great day at the office. It was fun out there. It was nice conditions again like yesterday, and really nice set up for the course. I enjoyed myself out there, made a lot of putts and that was the key to another
perfect day”.
The third day at the scenic Blackstone Golf Club turned out to be a calm and peaceful one where most of the players posted strong scores ahead of the final round tomorrow.
Starting from front nine, the 26-year-old Austrian utilised his slender overnight lead over Marcus Fraser and carded first birdie of the day at fourth.
He pulled in another at the sixth and made the turn still holding on to his lead.
He opened up his back nine to what can be referred as stunning display of precision and accuracy and carded five birdies with regular intervals, posting an aggregate of 14-under, 202.
He managed to avoid a bogey at the 13th when he sank from 13 feet, amid loud cheers from the crowd.
He added, "It feels like I'm getting into position more often, and played well when I was in those positions in the last half of the year last year. It was a good preparation the last two years, and I hope it pays off tomorrow”.
Wiesberger had a brilliant season last year when he posted two strong runners up finishes on the European Tour, missing a chance to bag a title.
He lost in a five-man Playoff at Gleneagles where Thomas Bjorn went over to land the title.
Wiesberger is hoping to win in order to stay on course on the European Tour and avoid a return to the Challenge Tour, something that happened to the ambitious Austrian in 2010.
