Bernd Wiesberger delights the home fans at Atzenbrugg
The Lyoness Open finally comes to an end. The four-day event at Austria included the biggest names in the world of golf. They had gathered at this stage to fight for glory. The venue for this auspicious event was the Diamond Country Club, Atzenbrugg.
All the players exhibited the best golf and tried to win it. In the end, there was only one champion and it was the Austrian home favourite, Bernd Wiesberger. He had a slow start, nonetheless, he managed to pull it off.
On the first day, Wiesberger managed to score five birdies. Unfortunately for the player, he also scored two bogeys and a double bogey.
On the second day he had six birdies, three on the front nine and three on the back nine. The two days made his score seven-under par.
The third round was quite similar to the second one. The Austrian professional golfer managed to card six birdies on the day and just a single bogey. These made his score five-under par for the day.
The last day was the best one for the 26-year-old. He had a slow start on the front nine as he carded only two birdies and a bogey. Wiesberger completely turned his game around after the first nine holes. He got a bit aggressive and played a good game. On
the back nine, he scored six birdies.
The last nine holes did not include any eagles, bogeys or double bogeys. These made his score seven-under par for the day and his total score climbed up to nineteen-under par.
After winning the Open in an interview, he said, “It’s the best day of my life so far. It seems like it went my way, especially the last two holes”.
“I had such a great country and such great fans backing me. I’m very proud to be following in such big footsteps [as Brier]. I’m sure I’m not going to be the last home winner,” he added.
Bernd Wiesberger had a comfortable win, as had in a three stroke lead towards the end. He displayed a brilliant game towards the end and impressed the crowd by securing the trophy.
