Bernhard Langer looks to clinch yet another victory at ACE Group Classic
Bernhard Langer is in the news again, as he is seeking a victory at the ACE Group Classic this week.
The field at Naples, Florida comprises of leading players who maintain good records on the PGA (Professional Golf Association) Tour.
However, Langer said he has now recovered from his injuries and is fully fit to do his best on the course.
Langer, who is a Masters winner, had been going great a year ago but had to face an unexpected situation when he suffered from a thumb injury in early 2011.
According to the details, the thumb injury was caused in a motorbike accident. The German had to remain off the course for at least 2 months, missing Champion Tour season.
In order to fix his damaged thumb, Langer had to undergo surgery. The IMG Management Group said of his treatment, "Bernhard underwent a successful surgical repair and has recovered well from the procedure," Dr. Andrew Weiland said.
He added, "He will remain immobilised in a splint for five weeks and will begin range of motion exercises afterwards. It is anticipated that he will return to golfing activities in approximately eight weeks. A full recovery is expected".
Langer is best known also for winning the 2011 ACE Group Classic. He performed amazingly well on the final day of the event, shooting a 6-under 66.
This year, Langer appeared to be in stunning form, as he did intense training on the practice range before setting foot on the course at Naples.
“If you know me a little bit, I'm a very competitive guy," Langer said just hours before the 54-hole event kicked off.
He continued, "I like to be in contention. When you've won so many times, you like to win again. If I'm able to practice and work at it, I'd like to have some success".
In the first round of the tournament, He came off well and carded an impressive 6-under 66. He repeated his last season’s stunning performance, as he fired 5 birdies.
He made a few mistakes on some holes. On the par-4 8th, he could not judge the ball accurately and ended up scoring a bogey. However, on the 17th, he drained an eagle to offset his lapses.
