Bernhard Langer’s and John Cook’s lucky Sunday

Sunday was a memorable day for two golf legends, John Cook and Bernhard Langer. With the Champions tour coming to an end, Cook emerged as the winner of the finale event whereas Langer topped the money list and took the Charles Schwab Cup home. The Charles Cup
Championship took place at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco last weekend.
Langer has had an unbelievable year and this year he also claimed the one and possibly only thing on the Champions Tour that he hadn’t won. Langer has won five tournaments this year and having the honour of being a Charles Schwab Cup Champion is truly the
cherry on top. Out of his five victories this season, the two majors he won are the British Open and the U.S Senior Open.
Where Langer tied for third, the real star of the show was John Cook. Posting rounds of 64-69-67-67 in the event, Cook made sure that he struggled and defended his title for this year as well. Michael Allen, who achieved his course record after posting a
10-under 61 on Saturday, was just two strokes behind the winner.
The winner of the championship, Cook, took home $440,000 prize money and was really pleased with what was his first victory of the season. Even though he had nine top ten finishes in the last fourteen tournaments Cook played, he hadn’t won any till now.
He was in close competition with Allen who despite the rainy weather had a decent amount of supporters in the crowd. Most of his supporters were fellow members of the Olympic Club Members.
John Cook said that even though it wasn’t a home course, it didn’t mean that he couldn’t win. Cook was right. When Michael’s tee shot went into the assortment of trees lining the fairways, John was in the lead. The climax came at the eighteenth hole when
even though he was two shots behind, Cook shot a fifteen footer to save par and hence won the tournament.
As John set the course on fire at the last shot, Michael watched in disbelief. At the end of the game, Allen said it was one of ‘those’ days and it was frustrating.  He will be going to Orlando to take part in the Children’s Miracle Network Classic. Since
he is 124th in the money winnings, Michael will try to retain his status on the PGA Tour for next year.
Michael Allen was frustrated to not win on Sunday but frustration is feeling known to winners as well. "This year I had a lot of top 5s and top 3s,'' said Cook. "And when you have top 3s, it means you've had chances to win. If I had gone through this year
without a win, it would have been disappointing to say the least.''
Sunday’s spotlight was not only for John Cook but Bernhard Langer as well, as he captured the Charles Schwab Cup title. He said that he has achieved a lot of his goals. Now that he has won the money list again, he hopes to be the Player of the Year again
as well. Winning such a prestigious honour three years in a row is definitely a hard task, but looking at the way Langer is going, it doesn’t look so difficult. Starting his career as an amateur from Germany, Langer has won the Masters twice and is truly a
golf legend. In his career up till now, Bernhard has won 60 events all around the world.
To win the points list, Langer was in contention with Fred Couples. Couples would have been the points leader if he were to win the tournament with Langer finishing lower than a tie for fourth place. Even though things didn’t quite work out for Couples,
he still finished in tenth place and claimed $500,000 for his performance.
Overall, the finale on Sunday offered some erratic weather and amazing golf. Now that the Champions Tour id over, some of the players are eyeing the PGA Tour for next year. Even though above fifty, these men still know their golf well.
