Bernie Ecclestone: Indian Grand Prix will take place as scheduled – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 Management chief Bernie Ecclestone has recently stated that India will be ready before time and the Indian Grand Prix will take place as scheduled according to the 2011 Formula 1 calendar.
“I have no doubt in my mind the circuit is going to be one of the nicest we have and that it's going to be complete on time. We are checking everything all the time, on a daily basis. We are very, very happy everything is on time. There are no problems,”
he told the media.
With just two months left, the Indian Grand Prix will be investigated by Charlie Whiting, FIA’s safety delegate but still, Ecclestone claims that the track will be ready and ‘up to the mark’ despite the fact that reports claim the track is nowhere
near its final shape yet.
“We have to remember India is one of the top five most important countries in the world today. So for us, it's extremely important to be in India as much as any other country in the world. Formula One is new to India. We will never catch cricket, I'm
quite sure about that, but we have to try our best to do that,” he said.
Since there are two Indian drivers and an Indian team principal in the sport, it seems that this is the perfect time of making a fan base for the sport in the country which will be achieved if a track and an event is introduced in the country.
However, one has to admit that the decision regarding the Indian Grand Prix was made in a lot of rush and these sorts of decisions are affecting the credibility of the sport severely. Even the Korean circuit for the Korean Grand Prix was investigated
just days before the race was expected to take place and it seems that the Indian Grand Prix is going to go through almost the same situation this year.
Either way, the Indian Grand Prix is going to take place no matter what according to Ecclestone and with just 3 months left, the organisers of the circuit are going to go through a tough time in assuring the officials of Formula 1 regarding the safety
of the track.
