Bernie Ecclestone: Teams are presumably happy about 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
F1 chief executive, Bernie Ecclestone has said that the teams are presumably happy for Bahrain Grand Prix which is going to be held at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir on April 22, 2012 and there is no sign of the cancellation of the event.
“At this time now, there are no indications it won't go ahead,” he said. “It's really not up to me to decide whether it should go ahead or not. It's up to the people in Bahrain to decide. At this time, they are not cancelling the event, so presumably they
are happy.”
Moreover, he has said that none of the teams have spoken to him until now, regarding the security concerns at Bahrain.
“None of the teams have expressed any concern to me - quite the opposite,” said Ecclestone.
In addition, he said that he had a conversation with one of a team’s representative who said that everything is just fine.
“One of the teams sent a person over there recently - and I've spoken to them today actually - and they said everything's perfect, there's no problem,” said Ecclestone.
There have been many discussions over the occurrence of race event in Bahrain. Where on one side the race co-ordinators and Ecclestone have been quite positive that it will be held, on the other hand, the human rights activists have been emphasizing FIA
to give it a second thought.
Besides, Damon Hill, former F1 world champion has also said that FIA should rethink over the Bahrain GP because of the blazing social unrest and public demonstrations in the country.
Additionally, it has been reported in the Guardian that an anonymous team boss has said that all the teams are hoping that FIA would call off the race at Bahrain circuit.
It was also reported that the nameless team principal has said that they will not take part in the race at Bahrain until or unless all the security measures are ensured.
Conversely, John Yates who is the advisor of security in Bahrain said that there are only few places which are affected by the turmoil while 95% of the country is secured.
