Bernie Ecclestone – a model with a battered face
Our best friend Bernie Ecclestone, Formula 1’s mastermind, the people’s champion featured in a new advertisement for Hublot, a Swiss watch making company with his battered face.
It was quite a funny advertisement picture and it seemed like a person begging for charity rather than a billionaire who wears a thousand dollar watch. FIA’s CEO Bernie Ecclestone got mugged a couple of days ago and according to the Media, the muggers robbed
him and took his girlfriend’s jewellery which was worth 200,000 pounds making it a total of $315,000.
His 32 year old girlfriend watched the entire show as the robbers beat the 80 year old boyfriend up in front of her before making the steal.
The picture that was released by the Swiss watchmakers speaks for itself. Bernie with a black eye and a bruised cheek trying to sell a watch is going to help the company sell more watches than tomatoes.
However, Ecclestone’s dialogue in the ad was quite impressive and the clever. “See what people will do for a Hublot,” according to Bernie Ecclestone in the ad.
The picture was provided by Bernie himself and was taken from his cell phone.
“He said, 'please use it to make an advertising campaign because I want to show that I'm courageous. I thought, wow, this guy has some guts,” Jean-Claude Biver, the watchmaker's chief executive, told the Media.
We understand that the whole mugging incident was quite a dreadful experience for Bernie and his girlfriend but FIA’s CEO did not want to waste the opportunity to market himself. The ad itself is pretty good and creative but using such imagery is quite disturbing,
in a funny way.
According to Biver, the humour was added by Bernie and we have to give the 80 year old the credit for coming up with new ways of marketing a battered face.
“It is also a protestation against violence that we are all afraid of today. Some years ago we thought this would only happen in Brazil or the Latin countries. Now suddenly it comes to London, to Paris, everywhere,” Biver said in an interview.
