Bernie Ecclestone believes FIA should cut down the Formula 1 grid to ten teams
Formula 1 supremo, Bernie Ecclestone has recently stated that the FIA should seriously consider cutting down the number of teams on the Formula 1 grid sometime soon. He gave a similar statement a couple of months ago as well and it is believed that he was
questioning the viability of Virgin Racing Team and (HRT) Hispania Racing Team to succeed in Formula 1.
Bernie believes that the Formula 1 grid is too crowded at the moment and there are some unwanted teams on the grid as well. He stated last year as a result that one or even two of the new teams should not be a part of Formula 1 in the future as the sport
is a bit “rich for their blood”.
However, it is believed that he was not targeting Team Lotus in this statement as the supremo has already stated before that they are clearly the best out of all the new teams and that he believes that they have the potential to grow in the sport.
"I'm very happy that they are back," Ecclestone told the BBC. "They will get on their feet and then sponsors will be attracted to them and we'll see them grow. Frank Williams was like that years ago,"
On the other hand, he believes that Virgin Racing Team and HRT are going to have a similar run as compared to the respective teams’ 2010 run.
Reports suggest that Bernie is going to try to cut down the maximum number of teams from 13 to 10 as a part of the new 2013 Concorde Agreement.
"We thought F1 was achievable the way we were doing it, and we thought it was a wonderful thing. But you soon get the wake-up call, don't you?" said Virgin boss John Booth referring to his team’s 2010 run.
The report added that Ecclestone thinks that it would help the sport grow more financially as well, and as a result, the FIA and the organizers will find it easier to manage the sport.
